Berlusconi staff said he was admitted as a precaution. The hospital did not report on the health of the former Italian prime minister.

“Berlusconi was admitted as a precaution to the San Raffaele hospital in Milan after presenting some symptoms. His condition is not a cause for concern,” says a brief statement from his team.

A Berlusconi bodyguard also tested positive for the new coronavirus, but there is no information on the case.

Silvio Berlusconi, 83, was isolated at his home in the northern city of Arcore, according to a statement released by his team.

Berlusconi’s career

The son of a Milanese banker, Silvio Berlusconi was born on September 29, 1936. His first job was as a cruise ship assistant, where, helped by his imposing figure, he soon stole the show singing and telling funny stories.

After graduating in Law, he launched into the business world. Then the rise of Berlusconi begins.

It was mainly on television that the creativity of the communicator was highlighted. In order to please the general public, in the 1980s, their channels became popular by putting shows with semi-naked women in their bars.

The Berlusconi family holding company, Fininvest, has three television channels, newspapers and the Mondadori publishing house.

In 1994 he ventured into politics. In a few weeks he organized the Forza Italia party and won the elections. Abandoned by his allies, his government collapsed after seven months. In 2001 he returned to power, where he remained until April 2006, a record in postwar Italy.

Exhausted after these five years, he was narrowly defeated in the elections, but two years later he turned around, taking control of the country for the third time.

In November 2011, to great disapproval, Berlusconi had to hand over command of an Italy in a serious financial crisis to economist Mario Monti.
