Former federal deputy Carlos Eduardo Cadoca died this Sunday at the age of 80. More than a month ago, he entered the Hospital Português do Recife with Covid-19. The death was confirmed by his wife, Berenice Andrade Lima, on a social network.

“He resisted with courage. He was a strong warrior, typical of someone who loves life, but this disease is terrible, mysterious and, unfortunately, it was stronger,” he wrote.

Cadoca will be cremated in a family ceremony at 11 am.

The politician was a federal deputy for five terms and held other public positions, in addition to being a councilor of Recife and a state deputy.


“It is with immense regret and deep sadness that we inform you that the former secretary and former federal deputy Carlos Eduardo Cadoca died, at dawn this Sunday, at the Portuguese Hospital, a victim of complications caused by Covid-19.

Cadoca, 80, was a warrior, he resisted a lot, but sadly, he lost the fight against this terrible disease that has already victimized so many people in Brazil and in the world.

Cadoca tested positive for Covid-19 on October 29 and, on November 3, he was admitted with respiratory problems.
The former deputy spent a long period of total confinement in the most critical phase of the pandemic, but with the reopening of activities, he returned to the political office in Santo Amaro. He was one of the coordinators of the campaign for the re-election of councilman Samuel Salazar (MDB), who was also infected in the same period, but he recovered and is doing well.
Cadoca’s wife, Berenice de Andrade Lima, on behalf of the family, thanks everyone who made a strong positive current and joined in prayers for Cadoca’s recovery. Berenice remembers that this network of affection was very important, it provided a lot of comfort and good vibes during these tense, difficult and overwhelming days.

Covid-19 remains latent, as an immense challenge for the authorities and for society. Until the vaccine arrives, ensuring universal coverage, Berenice warns everyone to redouble their attention. “It is essential that each one assumes a part of responsibility to protect themselves, protect others and, thus, prevent other families from experiencing the same pain and suffering that we are experiencing now.”

Cadoca, from Recife, arruda, leaves behind four children, a granddaughter and a legion of friends, as well as a relevant legacy in public life. Cadoca was a three-time Recife councilor, one of whom assumed the presidency of the Chamber, served as a state deputy and five consecutive terms as a federal deputy. He was secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Sports of the City of Recife (with Jarbas Vasconcelos and Roberto Magalhães) and in the State, in the first administration of the Government of Jarbas Vasconcelos. He disputed the Recife City Council twice, in 2004 and in 2008.
In 2018 he announced that he would not run for re-election to the Chamber of Deputies, but that he would continue in political activity. He was currently affiliated with the Solidarity Party.

Cadoca had extensive experience in the Executive. He was Secretary of Economic Development, Tourism and Sports of the City of Recife in the second term of Jarbas Vasconcelos. He continued in the position in 1997, under the direction of Roberto Magalhães.

In Tourism, he created the Recifolia (City Hall), promoted the revitalization of the Bairro do Recife and the Dance on the Street.
In the State Government, it launched more projects that moved the economy of the interior of the state and generated employment and income: Circuito do Frio, Pernambuco das Paixões and many others.

At the head of the Carnival, as secretary, he left important marks such as Galo Gigante na Ponte, the reorganization of the Carnival of the City Center, the Carnival of Recife Antigo and opened space for traditions on the rural route: Papangus de Bezerros, Caboclinhos de Goiana , Maracatu de Nazaré da Mata, Carnival of Vitória, Caretas, Triunfo and Caiporas, in charge of Pesqueira.

In Sports, he created Bolsa Atleta which revealed great talents, Peladão Alto Astral and many other successful projects.
