The former federal deputy and candidate for mayor of Rio Cristiane Brasil (PTB) appeared this afternoon at CGPOL (Corregedoria Geral da Polícia). Cristiane is identified by the MP-RJ as a “fairy godmother” of a company that benefited from rigged tenders. According to the complaint, she had close contact with Flávio Chadud, owner of Servilog Rio. With political influence, she and the current State Secretary of Education, Pedro Fernandes (PSC), would have implemented a criminal scheme between 2013 and 2018, prosecutors accuse .
Cristiane and Fernandes were the main targets of the second phase of Operation Catarata, inaugurated this morning to fulfill five preventive arrest warrants and carry out six house searches in the neighborhoods of Copacabana, Recreio dos Bandeirantes and Barra da Tijuca. Fernandes was arrested.
In addition to them, the targets of the arrest warrants were the businessman Flavio Solomon Chadud, his father, the PCERJ Mario Jamil Chadud and the former director of financial management (DAF) of the Leão Foundation XIII, João Marcos Borges Mattos.

Fernandes defense: “He was never heard”
In a statement, Fernandes’ defense states that the secretary was “outraged” by the arrest warrant and that he learned from the press that he was being investigated “for something that is still unknown.”
“His lawyer has been requesting access to the file since the end of July, but could not,” the text says. “Pedro was never listened to and he only learned from the press that he was being investigated for something he is still not sure about. Pedro trusts that everything will be clarified as soon as possible and his innocence will be proven.”
Cristiane was already banned from possession
