BRASILIA – President Jair Bolsonaro said on Thursday that Brazil needs armed forces “ready” to protect the Amazon from the “interest” of other countries. Bolsonaro made the comment when speaking about the statement that the Democratic Party candidate for the presidency of the United States, Joe Biden, gave on the Amazon, in the debate with President Donald Trump on Tuesday.
– He (Biden) apparently wants to break the relationship with Brazil because of the Amazon. We know that some countries in the world are interested in the Amazon. And what do we have to do to dissuade them from this. And how do you dissuade this? Have the armed forces ready. But our Armed Forces have been discarded in the last 20 years – Bolsonaro said, during a live broadcast on his social networks.
In the debate, Biden said that, if elected, he will raise, along with other countries, US $ 20 billion to ensure the preservation of the Amazon, and said there will be “significant economic consequences” if deforestation continues.
During the broadcast on Thursday, Bolsonaro also said that he saw no problems with the possibility that the Defense Ministry has more resources than Education, as it was considered, and later discarded, by the federal government. According to him, the important thing is that the Armed Forces are prepared if any country decides to do “nonsense” against Brazil.
– “Defense will spend more than Education”. It’s all this shit all the time. It doesn’t matter if you spend more or less, you have to reach your goal. Why if one day some country, some power, decides to do something stupid against Brazil, what are we going to do? What are you going to do? will be calm, right? Y?
