Romain Grosjean’s replacement at Haas, Pietro Fittipaldi, will have to overcome the pain in his Formula 1 debut at the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Fittipaldi, who has been called up to replace the injured Grosjean, will start from the back of the grid and is not so used to the race pace, after more than a year without practice.
The Brazilian will now face an arduous 87-lap race on the short and short outdoor track in Bahrain.
Team leader Guenther Steiner said: “It will be difficult for him because there are a lot of laps here, but I think he will make it. When you’re on the run, you just get over the pain. “
“He will be sore on Monday and Tuesday, he will certainly suffer, but in the heat he usually doesn’t feel that much, so he will surely get over it.”
“He will be tired, but he is young, he is strong, he trains all the time to be able to overcome, but it will surely be a difficult day. In my opinion, finishing the race will already be a success ”.
Fittipaldi has a lot to live for, as he is the third generation of his family of drivers to compete in F1, with his 73-year-old grandfather, two-time champion Emerson, watching with pride.
The 24-year-old is aware that the underperforming Haas car will give him little ammunition to make his way onto the grid, but he disagrees with Steiner’s expectations and wants to do more than just make it to the finish.
Ready to attack from the start, Fittipaldi said: “I think the first lap will be interesting. Looking ahead to my first race, every move I make has to be decisive ”.
“So for my first race, when I make a move, I have to be decisive, but also thinking that my main priority is to finish the race to gather information for the team.”
“Obviously it is my first race and it is difficult to train for the race conditions, so I will learn a lot during the race, how to run in dirty air. It’s not just about getting the flag at the end, I want to do my best, ”he said.
