Two and a half months after being fired from SBT, Roberto Cabrini commanded a special report on Silvio Santos in “Domingo Espetacular” on Record. Throughout 47 minutes, a huge amount on television, the reporter reconstructed the trajectory of the presenter, who turns 90 years old.
In December 2010, Marcelo Rezende also did a special report, shown in the same “Spetacular Sunday”, in honor of Silvio, who was turning 80 years old. Story length: 47 minutes too!
Both reports left Record ahead of the “Silvio Santos Program” on SBT. In 2010, Record scored 21 points and also surpassed Globo, taking first place. In 2020, the result was much lower, 12 points, behind the Río station, which scored 18.
The two reports are very similar, using the same archive images and adopting the same chronological perspective, including passages from the two reporters in the place where Silvio worked as a street vendor, downtown, and on the Rio-Niterói ferry.
Rezende further explored the bankruptcy of the Pan American Bank and interviewed Luiz Sandoval, former president of the Silvio Santos Group. Cabrini managed to interview the six daughters of Silvio Santos and Iris Abravanel, the presenter’s wife. And he had access to several family videos about the 90th birthday party.
The most curious thing is that Cabrini was discharged from SBT in September, after 10 years at the station. Along with him, ten professionals from “Conexão Repórter” were fired.
Cabrini’s access to the Abravanel family is remarkable. One of the daughters, Daniela, provided an unpublished video recorded in an environment of Silvio’s house with photos and memories of the whole family.
At the beginning of the story, Cabrini showed some other videos recorded inside Silvio’s house on Saturday, during the birthday party. One of them showed Silvio talking to singer Roberto Carlos. “I admire you, you are the boy,” Roberto tells the birthday boy.
Another video shows Silvio with Íris opening a birthday cake that he won. It is a walnut and pistachio tart. And Iris reports that it was sent by Cabrini. Silvio then says: “Roberto Cabrini, I still support you, I keep watching your programs.”
It is true that Cabrini no longer has a program. Neither at SBT, which fired him, nor at Record, where he works as a reporter for Domingo Espetacular. But this is not important.
Cabrini’s access to the Abravanel family’s inner circle indicates that the journalist left SBT, in reality, due to the severe crisis affecting the channel.
