The flames were brought under control in the morning, however, despite the efforts of the military, the fire returned to the park.

The combination of heat and low humidity in the air served as fuel to hinder the work of fighting the flames in the forests of the Ursulina de Andrade Mello Municipal Park, in the district of Castelo, in the Pampulha region. This Wednesday, on the third day of the fire, about 30% of the total park area had already been consumed by the fire, equivalent to 100,000 m² of remaining vegetation in the tropical forest.

The flames were brought under control in the morning, when towers of smoke were seen in the park. However, despite the efforts of the military, the fire reappeared in the park. At around 5 p.m., at least ten firefighters and seven brigade members were fighting the flames.

The report asked the Belo Horizonte Municipal and Zoobotanical Parks Foundation for information on the actions carried out by the municipality to prevent and fight fires in areas of preserved vegetation. However, as of press time, the agency had not yet spoken. According to the city council, the source who was able to answer the questions was in the Castelo district park, working on fire control.

In addition to the firefighting carried out in the Ursulina de Andrade Mello Municipal Park, the firefighters attended yesterday, until the closing of this edition, another 210 calls were opened to the Firefighters, for fires throughout the state, 50 of them in BH and the staying inside Minas, with an average fire every five minutes.

In view of the favorable weather conditions for the rapid spread of the flames, the member of the Battalion of Environmental Emergencies and Disaster Response (BEMAD) Lieutenant Manoel Braga warns that caution should be exercised when using fire, since 99% of the fires vegetation originate in human action. “Prevention avoids environmental damage, the expenditure of public resources and the mobilization of firefighters teams that could be saving lives in other events in the city,” he says.
