Cruzeiro was the underdog from Santa Catarina and returned from southern Brazil with excellent results. Tonight (24), Raposa overthrew the all-powerful Chapecoense, won 1-0 and put an end to the sequence of 17 undefeated matches for the Santa Catarina team, the absolute leader of Serie B of the Brazilian Championship.
The heavenly goal was scored by Rafael Sobis in the second half. The triumph makes the miners reach nine games without losing in the competition. Condá’s team was defeated only for the second time in the Second Division (previously they had lost to Cuiabá on matchday six).
With the victory, the first over a member of the current G4 of the tournament, the star team reaches 28 points, but remains in 15th place, as Brasil de Pelotas beat CRB, has one more point and is in 14th place.
The Chapecoense, on the other hand, even with the defeat, remains in the lead, but sees the difference in the score fall to four points in relation to the second classified, América-MG (47 to 43).
Cruzeiro’s next appointment is this Friday (27) against Confiança, in Mineirão, at 9:30 p.m. Chapecoense visits Guarani, in Brinco de Ouro, on Saturday at 9pm.
The game
The game put the fired leader, Chapecoense, face to face against a Cruzeiro trying to remake himself – the club’s word of the moment – on and off the pitch. But the disparity in rankings was not so apparent on the field. The sky blue team showed good volume, controlled the game and canceled the important potential of the opponent throughout the match.
Raposa was better in the first half, creating clearer scoring opportunities with seven submissions, three on João Ricardo’s goal, which worked well. Chape kicked only twice, none with such danger for Fábio.
In the second stage, the celestial team continued with its strategy and did not fall into the traps of Chapecoense, a reactive team that likes to deliver the ball to the rival. When Raposa took possession, he attempted a quick offensive transition, but was stopped by either the shot error or the strong marking of Santa Catarina, the best defensive team in the competition.
It was in a set piece that Felipão’s team came to victory, with Rafael Sóbis, who guaranteed three points and a nine-game unbeaten streak without the defeat of Cruzeiro.
Who did it well: Rafael Sobis
Goalkeeper João Ricardo, from Chapecoense, even tried to be the best, but striker Rafael Sobis defeated team Condá goalkeeper. Tactical player, he used all his experience to organize the team on the field and scored the winning goal in a beautiful free kick.
Who went wrong: Patrick Brey again
The left-back practically zeroed out the book of errors in the match against Chapecoense. He missed a pass, failed positioning and even stepped on the ball. To top it all, he was scolded by defender Manoel and forward Rafael Sóbis. The player won another opportunity due to the absence of Matheus Pereira, suspended for the third yellow card
Date after “no”
The match marked Cruzeiro’s first meeting with coach Umberto Louzer. The two parties were the protagonists of a negotiation that went wrong after the current Chapecoense coach accepted and later rejected Raposa’s invitation. The celestial marketing department had even created, in October, the graphic piece to announce the hiring of Louzer, the then replacement of Ney Franco. As the business did not move, Felipão ended up arriving at Toca II.
