CBF Secretary General Walter Feldman said the Flamengo’s request to postpone Sunday’s clash with Palmeiras in São Paulo, must be denied. In an interview with Rádio Bandeirantes, the director said that the protocol is working perfectly and highlighted that the high number of subscribers helps the clubs have enough players even with high cases of Covid-19 for eventual championship rounds.

CBF has postponed eight games in the four divisions of Brazilian soccer until last weekend. Feldman said “logic” and “trend” are negative to Flamengo’s claim. The interview was broadcast before new cases of the Rio team were published earlier this Wednesday afternoon.

– We have already played almost 300 games with absolute rigor in the area of health, safety, before and after tests, and it is not only Serie A, B, D, in the deepest corners of Brazil and everything absolutely perfect. With served protocol. And respecting that, when the club has its contagion, it separates (players) and continues playing. Unless you do not have a minimum squad to enter the field and make the substitution. This is not the case with Flamengo now. Flamengo has 40 subscribers, no matter how high the number is, I still have a pretty viable team. Then the game must take place, ”Feldman said.

One of the interviewers was former player Neto, now a commentator. He asked Feldman:

Neto: If Flamengo has 40 subscribers, you can play football with seven players, right? The rule says so. If they have 40 subscribers, if they have 20 with Covid, there are 20. Goiás had 15 and they played. CSA played, right?

Feldman: That’s right, you defined it even better than me. If you have enough minimum quantity to enter the field, please enter the field. UEFA, in fact, is putting figures similar to what it said. Obviously there is a squad to enter the field, make substitution and the game must take place.

If CBF receives a deferral request from Flamengo, will it not accept it?

Feldman: You see, we received official confirmation of this last night from the Director of Competitions. I am only advancing the logic that CBF has adopted. It must also apply in that game. The official response should occur in the next few hours. But this is the trend.

The rule is the same for everyone, right?

Feldman: Exactly. We are working hard on this. For us at CBF it doesn’t have that. Goiás, Flamengo, Atlético-MG, Bahía, all are treated in an absolutely equal way.
