“No one is considering the return of soccer this month in Minas Gerais. In May, we certainly will not have soccer” – said Aro

The return of soccer to the state began to be considered last Thursday, after the FMF met with the Minas Gerais government and announced that, in association with health agencies, it is beginning to create a medical protocol for the games. It could happen again. At that meeting, according to Aro, it was said that the peak of the pandemic in Minas Gerais is scheduled for early June. Therefore, the director believes that there will be no soccer in the state before the end of the month.

– What was said, in my meeting with the state governor, was that in Minas Gerais we have not yet reached the peak of the disease, and this is scheduled for early June. Therefore, it is extremely unwise to think about the return of soccer before experiencing the peak of the epidemic. So, what we are working on, with a very optimistic perspective, is at the end of June onwards.

Adriano Aro also explained why they decided to start writing the medical protocol, even with the return of distant football, at this time. According to him, this is a way in which the entity must plan when soccer returns, guaranteeing the safety of all the people involved in a match.

– Aware of the seriousness of the moment, the Federation, as the entity that administers soccer in the state, needs to be prepared for when it is possible to resume soccer in Minas Gerais. That’s what we’re doing. The Federation, in association with the state government, has been working on a security protocol so that, from the moment it is possible to resume soccer, we have a mechanism that is safe for all athletes, managers … to People who live the daily life of football can carry out their work safely.

Is there any chance that Mineiro won’t end up on the field?

The final of the Minas Gerais Championship, according to the schedule proposed at the beginning of the year, should have happened last weekend, but ended up paralyzed in the ninth round of the first phase, requiring six dates to be closed. Even with the delay, Adriano Aro guaranteed that the idea remains to close the tournament on the field.

– We have more than 80% of the first phase completed, and it does not seem reasonable to me to finish a championship in which some clubs already have their defined positions to reach places in the Copa do Brasil or even for relegation purposes. Unfortunately, the pandemic was somewhat unpredictable, which hit everyone. Professional soccer has a series of commitments. The clubs that planned, that paid out a large sum of money and that are very close to getting a place in the Copa do Brasil or accessing … others, that did not plan as well, are close to decline. These are situations that must be preserved and, if possible, must be carried out by the entity that organizes the championship. (…)

“If it is possible to play football in 2020, the Federation will close its championships”

Still in the protocol that the Federation and the state government are creating, Adriano Aro said that the idea is to test the coronavirus in the players before the resumption of the games and also during the rounds. According to the president, the document prepared by CBF will still be presented to the club’s doctors.

– When this is possible, our idea is to have a protocol where there will be tests of all the players before the championship resumes, then do periodic tests … a mechanism that was even prepared by CBF, and that the Federation has already replicated for the state government We are still working on it, so much so that at Thursday’s meeting it was decided that the next step is to present the protocol to the medical departments of the clubs, so that the clubs can also assess whether it is feasible or not .
