Sputnik – For fear of a new outbreak of the coronavirus after the registration of new cases of COVID-19, the capital of South Korea, Seoul, determined this Saturday (9) the closure of bars and nightclubs.

At the same time, South Korean President Moon Jae-in urged people to remain vigilant. The Asian country, which adopted the massive testing strategy to contain the coronavirus epidemic, is seen as an example in the fight against the disease.

The decision was made after a new outbreak of infections in Itaewon, one of Seoul’s busiest nightlife districts.

More than 10 cases were related to a 29-year-old man, who tested positive for COVID-19, and was in clubs and bars in the region last weekend.

According to the country’s health authorities, some 7,200 people were in places frequented by men.

“Neglect can lead to an explosion of infections,” said Seoul Mayor Park Won-soon, according to AFP.

Highest number of cases since April 9.

He asked everyone in the right places to volunteer. Security measures come at a time when life in South Korea gradually returns to normal, with the relaxation of the rules of social detachment.

According to the South Korean government announced on Sunday (10), in the last 24 hours 34 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in the country, 26 of which were local transmission of the virus and eight imported cases. Of the 26 domestic cases, 14 were reported in Seoul.

It is the largest number of new cases in South Korea since April 9. In the last 10 days, domestic cases were zero or less than 10.

“It only ends when it ends. We will maintain a high alert until the end, we must never lower our guard in relation to the prevention of epidemics,” the South Korean president said in a statement to the nation on Sunday.

According to the Johns Hopkins University virtual map, South Korea has nearly 11,000 cases of coronavirus and 256 deaths.
