In a unanimous decision, this Tuesday afternoon (10/6), the Goiás Court of Justice acquitted Father Robson de Oliveira of the money laundering charges. The information was confirmed by the defense of the religious post office. Investigations by the Goiás Public Ministry, through Operation Vendilhões, had indicated that the accused had handled R $ 2 billion in 10 years, through the Filhos do Pai Eterno Association (Afipe), based in Trindade (GO) .
Father Robson’s trial began at 1:00 p.m. and, after forty minutes, the decision of Judge Nicomedes Domingos Borges was made, accompanied unanimously by Criminal Chamber I. Therefore, the MP’s action against the religious was dismissed.
“With this, it is recognized that there was no illegality practiced by the religious, who was always willing to clarify each and every one of the doubts about his performance in Afipe or in any other area of evangelization,” summarized defense attorney Pedro Paulo de Medeiros. .
Cléber Lopes, also a defense attorney for the parish priest, said that the magistrates’ decision reinforces that “the association chaired by the parish priest is private and there was no deviation of values, being certain that all investments were approved by the members of the Asociation”.
“The court’s decision recognizes what the defense had said some time ago. They hope that the priest can restore his biography,” says the lawyer.
Operation Vendillions
The investigation of the Public Ministry had indicated that Afipe received high donations from the faithful, reaching up to R $ 20 million in monthly donations. The agency also found that part of the funds would have been used to buy farms and a beach house. Last September, two representatives from the Vatican were in Trinidad to investigate the association.
