Father Júlio Lancelotti, coordinator of the Pastoral of Street People of the Archdiocese of São Paulo, registered this Tuesday (15) a police report for a threat after he was cursed by a motorcyclist while he was assisting people without home in the Center. from the city.
Lancelotti claims to be the target of a smear campaign by the state deputy and candidate for mayor of São Paulo Arthur do Val (Patriota), known by the nickname Mamãe Falei.
In a video posted on his Twitter account early Tuesday morning, Lancelotti does not name the politician directly, but says threats have increased following the candidate’s attacks.
“I was here in the square with the brothers on the street and a motorcycle passed by and the guy said: ‘Father son of a bitch who defends noia [usuário de droga]’. After the attacks of some mayoral candidates against me, I am taking an increasing risk. So I want to make it clear, if something happens to me, if someone hits me, you know who is to blame, who to accuse ”, said the priest.
After the publication of the video, entities and personalities came out in defense of Lancellotti and the issue was among the most discussed in the country on Twitter.
Arthur do Val, who is a youtuber and member of the Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL), has published several videos on his social networks in which he describes the priest as a “pimp of misery.” He also criticizes the NGOs and sectors of the church that operate in the Cracolândia region.
Earlier Tuesday night, the deputy called the priest a “pimp of misery,” but denied having threatened or encouraged others to threaten the religious.
“What Father Lancellotti does is deplorable. The Catholic Church has a beautiful history and cannot be at the mercy of a pimp of misery. I will unmask this priest,” he wrote.
“Father Júlio Lancelotti published a video saying that I am threatening him, that I am encouraging people to do violence against him. (…) There is ‘no candidate for mayor’, there is me, Arthur do Val, who am questioning everything you do and keep people in poverty (…) I am not (threatening). It’s a lie. I doubt they will find a video of me, a publication of mine, threatening the priest to do something, some violence against him or encouraging others to do it, ”he said earlier that night in another video posted on social networks.
Arthur do Val said, through his press office, that he never incited “any kind of violence against him and I repudiate whoever does it. The way to antagonize him is through public debate. I reiterate what I said before, he is a pimp. of misery. Supporter of movements that invade private property. Very soon I will unmask it. ”
