The shot backfired. The current mayor Marcelo Crivella (Republicans) ended up “motivating” anonymous and illustrious voters to wear the famous Panama hat to vote for the second round in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday 29. On Friday, the candidate attacked rival Eduardo Paes (DEM ), stating that the rival wears “Zé Pilintra’s hat”, an Umbanda entity, during the carnival parades in Rio. The singer Alcione chose a blue outfit and put on her props to exercise her citizenship rights. In a post on social networks, Marrom made clear his support for Eduardo Paes and the tribute to “Seu Zé Pilintra”.
The former mayor’s constituent, singer Igor Kartnaller, 32, joked that not even the best marketer would have thought of encouraging Eduardo Paes supporters to wear the famous hat. At a school in the Penha neighborhood, in the Rio suburb, the carioca took a selfie to record the moment he voted with the props.
– He would already vote for Paes, but many friends were induced to vote for him after Crivella’s judgmental speech. I have several friends with African hues who got together and arranged for everyone to wear the Panama hat. It is our silent manifestation. It is incredible that, in the middle of the 21st century, a candidate should treat any adornment that is part of another religion in a pejorative way – he says.

According to Igor, the revolt in his “bubble” was such that many friends who would cancel the vote in the second round of the municipal elections changed their minds and opted for Eduardo Paes. And, of course, everyone with the “Zé Pilintra hat” on their heads.
– Here in the suburbs, the Panama hat means representativeness. We all took offense. I went out here at the fair and saw a lot of people wearing the same hat. No marketer would think of something so great. Crivella ended up helping to give more votes to Eduardo Paes – says the singer.

Rocinha resident Jorge Mariano, 52, said he proposed to vote with a “Zé Pilintra” hat after Marcelo Crivella’s statement in the debate on TV Globo. He said he hopes the next city administration will more respect the culture and spirit of Rio.
– He (Crivella), as a religious, could never have used the word for such an attack. This shows their desperation. He had nothing to do but attack. But I do not put that prejudice only on his back, not much of society thinks so – said the autonomous, who declared his vote in Eduardo Paes. – You don’t even have to hide who I’m voting for, do you?
On social media, the comment was understood as an act of religious intolerance. In response, the inhabitants of the capital of Rio de Janeiro who support Eduardo Paes wore the hat and posted photos on social media with the hashtag #zepilintra. The singer Teresa Cristina shared a photo with a hat in the colors of Portela, blue and white, her school of heart, and with her name. She made it clear that she would vote for Paes and wear the accessory this Sunday.
“Separating my“ Zé Pelintra hat ”for Sunday to bring out the worst mayor that has ever passed through my city. Goodbye, crivella! #Paidamentira #foracrivella!, Wrote the singer.
