Images obtained exclusively by Record TV show new details of the attacks on João Alberto Freitas, a black client beaten to death by white security guards in a supermarket in Porto Alegre (RS).

The scenes show one of the assailants hinting that the victim was drugged. In unpublished records, it is possible to see the aggression from another angle. When João Alberto, unconscious, lies on the ground after being attacked, one of the security guards tries to explain himself to the witnesses. “But if he’s drugged it’s even worse,” says a security guard. “He’s not drugged,” replies a witness.

In another video, a woman recounts what the security guards told João Alberto’s father. “His father asked and they spoke as soon as he was upset. They said he was upset,” says a witness.

It is also possible to notice the moment when another client warned that João Alberto was turning purple during the beating. “Right at the beginning, when he started going bankrupt, I said: He’s turning purple and nobody cares. Two carried on with him,” says one client.

Record TV had access to the statements given to the police. There are contradictions in the reports of two supermarket employees.

An inspector told police that she did not know João Alberto and that he seemed furious when he confronted her and the security guards. The supermarket employee also said he threatened to push them, but they managed to avoid it.

This would have happened before João Alberto was taken to the parking lot. The internal circuit, however, does not show this. João Alberto seems to walk calmly and attacks security only when he reaches the basement.

The supermarket inspector, who appears in the videos, was also heard, who also presented contradictions.

He reported that his colleague, who said he did not know João Alberto, told him that he had had friction with other employees on other occasions and that, this time, João Alberto had pushed a lady. He also said that he called the military police and the samu, and asked the children to leave João Alberto.

Again it is not what appears in the videos. The images show the inspector scolding a colleague. “Don’t do that and I’ll burn you in the store,” he says. To which the clerk responds: “I work here at the store.

Investigation

The civil police expect to complete the investigation into the death of João Alberto until friday (27). In addition to intentional murder, when there is an intent to kill, the police investigate whether other crimes have been committed. The security guards, Magno Braz Borges and Giovanne Gaspar da Silva, are in preventive custody.

Giovane’s attorney said the client did not know João Alberto and denied that the cause of death was the assault. “He went to contain a situation, he called by radio because there was a man who was starting a conflict with an employee,” said the defender.
