Through the press office, Marcinho took an official position on the case and said that he supports those involved. The note also reports that the player’s father, Sérgio de Oliveira, will also testify before authorities.
“The athlete’s family is very sorry for what happened and is giving all the necessary support to those involved. The father of the side, Sérgio de Oliveira, will give testimony, as well as the athlete, during the next few days, exclusively to the authorities.”

Marcinho, who is without a club after his contract with Botafogo ended last Thursday, is suspected of being the driver of the car that ran over María Cristina José Soares and Alexandre Silva de Lima, fleeing without providing help.
Alexandre died on the spot and María was transferred to the Lourenço Jorge Municipal Hospital in serious condition. The accident occurred in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro.
The police are still investigating whether the 24-year-old was actually the driver of the vehicle, which is registered in the name of a hospital products company whose partner is Sergio Lemos de Oliveira, Marcinho’s father and businessman.
On Thursday night, the car, a Mini Cooper model, underwent a second inspection at the 42nd DP in Recreio. After the first inspection, a winch from the insurance company towed the car to Sergio’s garage; from there, the police began treating the player as a suspect.
Two experts from the Civil Police were in charge of the new investigation, the most complete because it includes the interior of the vehicle. Still on Wednesday night, a few hours after the accident, the vehicle was examined at the time it was found, but only from the outside.
Alexandre Silva de Lima will be buried this Friday at the Jardim da Saudade cemetery in Rio de Janeiro.
