The day after the feminicide of the stylist Tatiana Fonseca inside the building where she lived in Pituba, followed by the suicide of the author, another similar crime occurred on Friday morning in Salvador. The case had even greater repercussions for the characters involved: the mayor of Conceição da Feira, Raimundo da Cruz Bastos, Pompílio (PSD), and his wife, Elba Rejane Silva, found dead in their city apartment, located in Le Parc , Luxury condo on Avenida Paralela.
Around 11 in the morning, the Civil Police were called to answer a call from residents of Pompílio and Elba, who had heard gunshots in apartment 1604 of Tower 9 of Le Parc. When they arrived at the place, they had the door open , the Department of Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) team found the bodies with signs of firearm shots, found near the mayor. From there, the researchers began to piece together the puzzle to try to clarify the deaths.
However, the evidence collected so far by the police points to another femicide followed by suicide in the capital. The security cameras of the condominium and building do not show the entrance of any stranger to the place. The crime scene, at first, also reinforces the thesis. However, what makes the case more shocking is the history of apparently peaceful coexistence without visible conflicts in the eyes of most people, according to the first complaints made by residents of Le Parc and relatives of both.
In Conceição da Feira, ruled by Pompílio since 2013, the two were seen as an example of a successful marriage, with public displays of love. On November 22, 2018, when the mayor turned 59, the first lady published a letter on local blogs, declaring love and admiration for her husband, a man of humble origins who became a successful businessman, owner of supermarkets, farms . , warehouses and birds for the production and slaughter of chickens in the municipality, which is part of the state poultry center.

According to a Le Parc neighbor who knew the couple and preferred not to be identified, the two kept the apartment in the condominium only as support for the occasions when they were in the capital. There were no reports of fighting during his stay at the residence, according to witnesses heard by police on Friday. However, the information collected in the initial phase of the investigation shows the existence of recent clashes in the marriage.
According to a DHPP source with access to details about the case, close friends of the couple’s family said they were in the process of separating and had been fighting for the past few months. For this reason, Pompílio would have begun to show signs of emotional and psychological instability. The wife’s decision to undergo plastic surgery is considered a possible trigger. On the day she was killed, Elba was recovering from the procedure at Le Parc’s apartment.
The weapon found at the scene has already been sent for a criminal examination and the first witnesses have already been heard at DHPP. Members of the couple’s family will be heard next week. Responsible for the investigation, delegate Milena Calmon, head of the 1st Homicide Police Station (DH / Atlântico), said that she will wait for expert reports to determine the circumstances of the death.
Pompílio and Elba had been married for 15 years. They share three sons from other relationships and a young daughter. In a statement, the city of Conceição da Feira expressed “the deepest regret and sadness” over the death. “The great friend Pompílio and his wife Elba will leave eternal nostalgia and many sad hearts, but they will also leave beautiful memories of the sincere friendship, love, commitment and dedication they always had for Conceição da Feira”, says the note.
Bahia adds 100 cases of femicide in 2020
Between January and November 2020, 98 cases of femicide were registered in Bahia. However, with the latest cases occurring in 24 hours in the capital, the total reaches 100. The figure exceeds the number of records in the same period of 2019, when 92 cases were counted. The data are from the Ministry of Public Security of Bahia (SSP-BA).
On November 23, Márcia Luísa Melgacio, 40, was killed with a chainsaw in Itabuna, in southern Bahia. According to the prime minister, the crime was committed by the former partner. Last Thursday there was case 99 of 2020.
Stylist Tatiana Fonseca died after being shot inside the building where she lived, in Pituba. According to the police, the crime was committed by the victim’s ex, João Miguel Pereira Martins, found dead with signs of suicide.
That same day, a document entitled the Bahia Femicide Protocol was signed to ensure speed and efficiency in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of crimes against women. The protocol will be used by police and legal professionals during the presentation of complaints and investigations. Bahía occupies third place in the national ranking of femicides.
