During an act promoted by XP Investimentos, the Minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes, denied that the Federal Government extends the emergency aid by 2021. According to him, the spending ceiling will be respected after the period of calamities this year due to the new coronavirus pandemic.

In addition, Guedes confirmed that it is still seeking to implement a transaction tax, similar to the former CPMF. The measure aims to pay for the broad payroll exemption for companies as part of a plan to boost job creation.

“I don’t care if the tax is ugly as long as it works creating new jobs. It is valid. But yesterday I gave the wrong information, because that’s the feeling. First I said, ‘Well, maybe I should have talked to her (reporter).’ Then when I talk to her, it’s the same topic, the same shit, which is, ‘Are you creating a new CPMF?’ No way. Instead of explaining, I said: ‘Listen well, I forgot, I gave up,’ “said the minister.

Regarding emergency aid, Guedes revealed that it will only continue until December. “There is no plan to extend the aid, none. That is not true. That is not our intention, it is not what the President said. It is not what the Minister of Economy wants. No way, ”he said.

The minister said that it will be necessary to respect the spending ceiling, which limits the growth of public spending to the inflation measured in the previous year.
