The Hungarian Government and Embraer signed today, November 17, a contract for the acquisition of two new generation Embraer C-390 Millennium multipurpose transport aircraft, in the aerial refueling configuration (AAR), designated KC-390. Furthermore, pilot and technician training, as well as other services and support, are included in the contract.

The acquisition is part of the process of strengthening the Hungarian Armed Forces, specifically in the functions of tactical airlift, AAR and medical evacuation, as well as other missions of public interest. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2023.

The KC-390 aircraft will be delivered to Hungary in 2023 and 2024, with the capacity to deliver large military cargoes in an operational environment and aerial refueling.

“We are acquiring a multi-mission transport fleet for the Hungarian Armed Forces to sovereignly carry out the widest range of tasks at the national level,” said Gáspár Maróth, Government Commissioner for Defense Development.

“We are honored to have been selected by the Hungarian government and the Hungarian Armed Forces to provide the most advanced multi-mission transport aircraft available on the market,” said Jackson Schneider, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security. “Hungary is the second European nation and NATO member to select the C-390 Millennium, a high-capacity aircraft that offers excellent productivity through an unmatched combination of speed, payload and rapid reconfiguration for multi-mission operations.” .

The KC-390 of the Hungarian Armed Forces will be the first in the world with the option of configuration for the Intensive Care Unit, a fundamental resource for the performance of humanitarian missions.

The aircraft fully meets the requirements of the Hungarian Armed Forces and can carry out various types of military and civil missions, including humanitarian support, medical evacuation, search and rescue, cargo and troop transport, precision cargo drop, operations paratrooper and AAR. .

These KC-390s are fully compatible with NATO operations, not only in terms of hardware, but also in their avionics and communications configuration. In addition, the KC-390’s refueling system, probe and basket enable the aircraft to refuel the Hungarian JAS 39 Gripen, as well as other aircraft using the same technology.

The C-390 Millennium is fully operational and, since the reception of the first aircraft, in 2019, the Brazilian Air Force has used the aircraft in several critical missions in Brazil and abroad with a high degree of availability.

In addition, the Government of Portugal signed a contract for the acquisition of five C-390 Millenniums in 2019 that are currently on the production line and will be in service in 2023.
