Julio Mora fled his parents’ home to secretly marry Waldramina Quinteros on February 7, 1941. Both families disapproved of the couple.
Seventy-nine years later, they are still together. He was 110 and she 104, both lucid and in good health.Although relatives say they are a bit depressed because they miss their big family gatherings before the coronavirus pandemic.

There are longer marriages, but so far none between people so old, according to Guinness World Records, says the Associated Press (AP). Together, the sum of the age of Julio and Waldramina is 215 years.
Until then, the oldest couple in the world was in Austin, Texas (USA): Charlotte Henderson and John Henderson, who have a combined age of 212 years and 52 days.

Júlio Mora was born on March 10, 1910 and Quinteros on October 16, 1915. They were married on February 7, 1941, in the first church built by the Spanish in Quito: The Church of El Belen.
The two retired teachers live in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, where in mid-August received Guinness certification.
Daughter Cecilia says they are lucid and active, although they no longer have the agility they used to have. But “they have been different for a month, more dejected because they miss the big family reunions.”
They have four children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
