RIO – As is happening in Praça Seca, in the West Zone of Rio, the inhabitants of Barra de Guaratiba are experiencing the terror that their houses will be taken over by militiamen. Investigations by the 42nd DP (Recreio dos Bandeirantes) show that at least five properties have been invaded by criminals in recent months and subsequently resold. The objective is to strengthen the financial institution of the organization. On Monday, a man designated by investigators as one of those responsible for the invasions and expulsions of the neighbors was arrested: Alex Gonzaga da Silva, the Soldier.
Militia dominance: Militias are already present in a quarter of Rio’s neighborhoods
According to the investigations, Soldado, who had five arrest warrants for robbery, abandoned the drug trade and allied himself with militiamen who worked in Barra de Guaratiba. According to the Civil Police, it is a cell of the largest militia in the state, commanded by Wellington da Silva Braga, Ecko. The gang began to invade property and steal vehicles in the West Zone of Rio.
Investigations also showed that only one of the houses invaded by the group was sold for R $ 500,000, just over two weeks ago. The property, located on the Estrada de Barra de Guaratiba, overlooks the beach and has views of the Restinga de Marambaia. According to the Civil Police, part of the amount of the sale was paid in cash and the rest was paid with cars.
Also according to the Police, because they are property, the neighbors expelled by militiamen do not report.

– Most of the time people do not come (to the police station) because they are afraid and for good reason. So our way is to attack this to prevent it from proliferating. The militia is doing unacceptable things, says Police Chief Allan Luxardo.
The 42nd DP has already identified militiamen from Barra de Guaratiba. All individuals who purchased property from irregular militias will be asked to testify.
Custom car thefts for Ecko
According to the Civil Police, Soldado was the main car and motorcycle thief in the neighborhoods of Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Barra da Tijuca and Barra de Guaratiba. The stolen vehicles were carefully selected by the Ecko group, then taken to Santa Cruz, where they were cloned and used in crimes.
– He was responsible for the car thefts. This is a blow to the group. Investigations are continuing to identify other crimes committed by them. We ask the population to report – says Luxardo.
