Drug trafficker Elías Maluco found dead in prison | West and southwest

The trafficker Elias Pereira da Silva, better known as Elias Maluco, was found dead on Tuesday afternoon (22) at the Catanduvas Federal Penitentiary, in western Paraná, according to information from the Penitentiary Department (Depen).

Elias Maluco was arrested in September 2002 and in 2005 he was sentenced to 28 years and six months in prison for the death of journalist Tim Lopes.

In 2013 he was sentenced to another 10 years, seven months and 15 days in prison, this time for the crime of money laundering. His wife and mother-in-law were also convicted of the same crime.

Since then, Elías Maluco has been in high security federal prisons.

According to Depen, the family was informed of the death by the Social Service of the Federal Criminal Court of Catanduvas.

Also according to the department, the Federal Police were called to carry out the forensic investigation at the scene.

Elías Maluco was arrested on September 19, 2002. He was convicted of the murder of journalist Tim Lopes, who died in June of that year while reporting on child abuse at a funk dance in the Cruzeiro favela.

The trafficker was known for the barbaric methods with which he killed people.

Tim Lopes’ body was charred in a tire fire known as a microwave and could only be recognized after a DNA test. Six other people were convicted of participating in the crime.
