Last Monday (7), a man was rescued alive by the Minas Gerais Military Police, 36 hours after his disappearance. Francisco Erlandio Evangelista Cavalcante reportedly slept while driving on the highway between the cities of Monte Carmelo and Iraí de Minas, and ended up having an accident. His car fell off a bench. In an interview with Uol on Wednesday (9), businessman Fabrício Nunes gave details of the exciting rescue.

Francisco had been missing since Saturday (5), but his disappearance was reported to the police until the next day. They found him trapped in the hardware of his truck after falling off the cliff on MG-190 highway. According to Fabrício -owner of the security company hired by the PM to help in the searches-, the rescue “was shocking.” The driver asked that he not be allowed to die and mentioned that he was very hungry and thirsty.

“As soon as we got in front of the truck, [Francisco] he was lying there, a little weak, with difficulty speaking. Then he said, ‘Wow, thank goodness. Give me water, give me water. I’m really hungry. Get me out of here. Do not let me die. I’m glad they arrived “the businessman recalled. Nunes also expressed gratitude for participating in the searches. “Seeing that your work saves lives, there is nothing that pays for that feeling”, he stated.

According to the owner of the security company, there is a distance of about 20 kilometers between Monte Carmelo and Abadia dos Dourados. If searches were carried out only on the ground, it would take a long time. For this reason, the police chose to request the company’s air support, with the help of Nunes’s drone. On Monday morning, the truck was found in a region of difficult access and view, approximately 25 meters deep, in relation to the road.

Lieutenant Kayro Gimenes told UOL that the driver spent Saturday night, Sunday and Monday morning in the vehicle. According to the policeman, the man could not get out of the car because he was trapped and had no movement in his legs. For the Military Police, the hypothesis is that Francisco would have fallen asleep at the wheel, which would have caused his accident.

The lieutenant also said the man was taken to the hospital, and that “I was dehydrated, tired and complained that I couldn’t feel my legs.”. Fortunately, the victim is not in danger of death.
