BRASÍLIA – Vice President Hamilton Mourão said on Friday that he agrees with the criticism made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Chinese embassy, for having refuted through a social network statements by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PSL-SP). Mourão said that “diplomatically, it is wrong” to make such denunciations publicly.

On Monday, Eduardo criticized, in a post on Twitter, the “espionage of China”. The Chinese embassy issued, on the same social network, a complaint against the deputy’s speech, addressed to the Brazilian government. The Foreign Ministry, then, sent a letter to the embassy repudiating the way in which the representation of the Asian country reacted to Eduardo’s statement.
– I think, diplomatically, that’s wrong. It is the second time that the Chinese ambassador reacts in this way. Within diplomatic conventions, the comrade who feels, let’s say, uncomfortable with everything that has happened in the country, either writes a letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs or goes to the Foreign Ministry and presents his considerations. And he did not see a social network, because this business becomes a carnival ”, said Mourão, when he arrived at the Planalto Palace.

The vice president added:
– So what the Foreign Ministry says is very correct.
In saying that it is the “second time that the Chinese ambassador” reacts in this way, the vice president referred to an episode from March, which also involves Eduardo Bolsonaro. At the time, Ambassador Yang Wanming criticized, also on Twitter, the congressman for holding China responsible for the new coronavirus pandemic.

Despite opposing the form of criticism made by China, on Thursday Mourão tried to downplay Eduardo’s statement, saying that it was only the opinion of a parliamentarian and that it did not change the work of the government.
That same day, he participated in an event promoted by the Brazil-China Business Council (CEBC) and highlighted the commercial ties between the two countries.
After the controversy: Deputies want to remove Eduardo Bolsonaro from the presidency of the Foreign Relations Commission
This Friday, when asked if the government should advise Eduardo to lower his tone, Mourão said that he did not know, but stressed that Eduardo deleted the publication that deals with China and that he should have been advised to do so:
– That question doesn’t affect me. Posted and then deleted. I think you must have received some recommendation to remove that.
