Diogo Santana, lawyer and former executive secretary of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, died on Friday (1/1) during the government of Dilma Rousseff. According to preliminary information, Diogo died after touching an electric fence.

The accident occurred in the Barra da Lagoa neighborhood in Florianópolis. Help was asked, but the lawyer died on the spot. An investigation will be opened at the Tenth Police Station to identify what caused the crash.
Diogo graduated in Law from the University of São Paulo (USP). He earned a Master of Public Administration from Harvard Kennedy School and returned to USP for a Ph.D. He was also a professor and member of the National Movement of Waste Pickers. He leaves two children and a wife.
On Twitter, Dilma said that “the death of Comrade Diogo Santana deprives Brazil of a dedicated human rights activist and a brilliant lawyer.”
“Diogo was indispensable, because of his competence, culture, dignity and generosity. His tragic death, still so young, saddens us all, who had the privilege of living with him. Despite the shortness of his life, Diogo Santana shone like a star”. and fought courageously for social justice and for a better future for our country. Former President Lula also issued a note of condolence. “Diogo Santana was a brilliant lawyer and a person committed to a better, fairer, more humane and caring Brazil. Minister Luiz Edson Fachin, of the Federal Supreme Court, expressed his deep regret. “Professor Diogo, born in poverty, directed, inspired and concretized what can be called justice in this world.
