Senator Chico Rodrigues (DEM-RR), caught by the Federal Police with money hidden in his underwear, asked to leave the office on Tuesday (20). According to the senator’s defense, the requested license is for a period of 90 days.
“He asked for 90 days, irrevocable, irreversible and without receiving salaries in the period,” said the senator’s defense, in a note.
The senator was deputy head of the government of Jair Bolsonaro in the Chamber and left office. He was the subject of a search and seizure order from the Federal Police in Boa Vista, in an operation that investigates diversions in funds to combat Covid-19 last Wednesday (14).
According to information from the Federal Police sent to the Supreme Court, the congressman hid R $ 33,150 in underwear. Of this total, R $ 15 thousand in bundles of money were between the buttocks.
On Monday afternoon (19), Rodrigues, who was the head of the ethics council, requested the dismissal of the collegiate. The senator has also resigned from the special commission that analyzes public spending in the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus.
With his departure from the Chamber, the senator’s son, Pedro Rodrigues (DEM-RR), does not assume the mandate. He, who is the first substitute for the position, would take over after 120 days.
On Monday (19), Senator Jayme Campos (DEM-MT), president of the Senate ethics council, defended that Rodrigues request a license for a term of 120 days.
If the orientation had been accepted, Rodrigues would have 30 more days to defend himself than the time of dismissal set by Minister Luis Roberto Barroso.
On Thursday (15), the STF (Federal Supreme Court) minister determined that the congressman be removed from his post for 90 days. The final decision, however, rests with the Senate, which must vote the removal in plenary session.
With the removal requested by the senator himself, Rodrigues prevented the full Senate from making the decision. Consequently, the process that the former vice president of the government points to in the Council of Ethics of the Chamber can continue its process, without the presence of the senator in the Chamber.
On Friday (16), the sheet showed that a group of senators have articulated a movement to analyze the Rodrigues case in the ethics council, delaying the decision of the Supreme Court. The congressmen speak of sending a message to the STF to limit the action of the Judicial Power in Congress.
Some of the senators argue that, before being dismissed, as Barroso wants, Rodrigues should be judged by the ethics council, with that, they would ignore the decision, for the moment monocratic, and give Rodrigues more time to defend himself, before the case. go to the Senate floor.
The preliminary court order (provisional decision) will be analyzed by the STF plenary session on Wednesday (21). The trial was scheduled by the president of the court, Luiz Fux, at the request of Barroso. Even on Friday, the ethics council received a representation for breach of parliamentary decorum against Rodrigues. Rede e Cidadania wants the termination of the senator’s mandate, now a graduate.
Campos has already referred to the Senate defense the representation for breach of parliamentary decorum presented by the two parties. There is still no deadline to issue the opinion.

The head of the collegiate, leader of the PSD in the Senate, Otto Alencar (BA), criticized Campos’ suggestion. For him, Rodrigues should resign his mandate.
