Del Valle claimed to have performed an additional PCR test last Monday as an additional precaution to health standards and Conmebol protocol. The player in question is in quarantine and will follow the same procedure as the others, while the club has called the authorities.

On the 24th, Del Valle reported that a player had tested positive for coronavirus. This number has increased to five with the four new infections released Monday. And it went up to eight with the information released Tuesday.

Flamengo and Independiente del Valle meet this Wednesday, at 9:30 p.m. (from Brasilia), in Maracaná. The Ecuadorians lead Group A with the same nine points as Rubro-Negro, the advantage is in the goal difference: 8 to 0. Junior Barranquilla (6 points) and Barcelona (0 points) hurt in Colombia at the same time.

The announcement of positive cases in Del Valle comes just over a week after the Ecuadorian team’s clash against Flamengo in Quito, when the hosts thrashed 5-0.

The next day, the Brazilian team detected the appearance of a Covid-19 outbreak in its squad. Initially, seven players tested positive, before the game against Barcelona, in Guayaquil. And, after the second confrontation in Ecuador, the total infected players reached 16.

The outbreak in Flamengo raised the alert in Del Valle and Barcelona, which faced athletes who were detected the infection the day after the matches. However, there were no positive cases in the tests carried out on the Ecuadorian teams immediately after the Libertadores matches. The two teams, coincidentally, met last Saturday for the Ecuadorian Championship.

Until last Sunday, Barcelona de Guayaquil did not have any confirmed case of Covid-19 in its squad, despite the crash against Flamengo in the last week, when the risk of contagion called into question the performance of the match. The team is expected to present additional test results before the trip to Colombia for the match against Junior Barranquilla, also on Wednesday.
