It wasn’t exactly how I expected it to be, but Deiveson Figueiredo made history at the UFC 256 and defended his belt for the second time in just 21 days. But this time, it was not a victory.
In the biggest fight in flyweight history, in the words of Dana White himself, Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno fought a battle of incredible 286 shots in five rounds. The balance was such that the fight ended up being declared a majority draw. One judge saw the champion win 48-46, but the other two tied 47-47.
Better for Deiveson, who, as champion, ended up keeping his belt.
The second defense of the belt in just 21 days is a UFC all-time record. To this day, Ronda Rousey has defended the title with the shortest break between two fights: 56 days.

At the end of the fight, Deiveson revealed that he took action greatly weakened by a beginning of intestinal infection.
“Last night I had an intestinal infection and until 2 am I was in the hospital and I did not know if I would be able to fight. But I won, even with a broken stomach, I won. I defended what was mine and gave my blood,” revealed Deiveson.
The Brazilian now continues with the belt and is left with a poster of 20 wins, one loss and one draw.
Brandon Moreno reaches an incredible mark of two draws in his career. He is only the sixth fighter in history to have two of the same in the UFC. In the poster, there are still 18 more victories and five defeats for the Mexican.
The expectation now is that a rematch will be scheduled between the two.
“If you want to put it back on, you can be sure I’ll hit the right pitch to neutralize her game. Whatever Dana wants me to do, I’m here to do with it. I had to gain weight in 20 days and I got here.” to give this show. Now I’m going home to enjoy my family a bit, “Deiveson said.
“We need a rematch. For me, for Figueiredo and for the fans,” Moreno declared.
The struggle
Deiveson Figueiredo started the fight better, but soon realized that he would not have any facility. Moreno absorbed all the blows very well and was still too dangerous on all the counterattacks. The Mexican was also successful in many of his knockdown attempts.
The Brazilian improved in the first round, but began to struggle in the second, where he seemed to have brought out the worst.
In the third round, the decisive moment of the fight: Deiveson tried a high knee, but ended up striking his foot in the private parts of the rival. Moreno went down a long time before returning to the fight, and judge Jason Herzog ended up taking a point from the champion.
Moreno even came close to a fourth-round knockout by swinging the Brazilian in an excellent strike sequence while on his feet. Deiveson held on, came back for the final round and took an impressive knockdown in the closing seconds to guarantee victory in the round.
In the end, however, it was not enough to make up for the lost point and the judges declared a majority draw.
