A 40-year-old Gama (American City Guard) patrolman was arrested with 31 weapons inside a Chevrolet Camaro on Tuesday (29), following an investigation by the Deic (Department of State Criminal Investigations).
Police found three rifles, one of them unregistered .556 caliber, three forks, five shotguns, six revolvers and 14 pistols. He was approached at the intersection of Rua Florindo Cibin and Avenida Carmine Feola. The arsenal was in the trunk of his vehicle.
Police did not release the name of the detained patrolman. The LIBERAL learned that the guard acted in response to the events or at the mobile base and is a shooting instructor. He is a member of a city shooting club.
Deic was investigating a complaint that an individual, known to have a white Camaro, was supplying guns to gangs involved in various robberies; this group would be based in the United States.
Deic’s team proceeded to conduct the investigation in the city and arrested the suspect on Tuesday. He was charged with possession of a restricted use firearm.
Investigations continue to determine whether he actually supplied the gang with weapons.
In a statement, Gama (US Municipal Guard) stated that it was not informed about the case and that it will investigate the matter to take the appropriate measures internally, if necessary.
“The corporation indicates that it does not accept criminal practices on the part of its patrolmen.”
