Covid-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, had already killed more than 300,000 people as of Thursday (14), according to the balance of the American Johns Hopkins University.
Until 2:50 pm, 300,074 deaths were recorded since the first confirmation of coronaviruses in December in China. Also, around the world there are more than 4.3 million confirmed cases from Covid-19.
The increase in 100,000 deaths comes just two weeks after the world registered more than 200,000 victims. However, this number of diagnoses reflects only a fraction of the actual number of infections, as many countries only test on hospitalized people.

Without a vaccine or medication, the virus that emerged in late 2019 in central China’s Wuhan City has already infected more than 4.4 million people.
It leads the list with the highest number of deaths caused by the new coronavirus (Sars-Cov-2): United States, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, France and Brazil.
On Wednesday (13), the Brazil surpassed France in number of infected with the new coronavirus and became the sixth country in the world with more cases of the disease. The countries with the most cases are:
- United States: 1.4 million infected and 84.9 thousand deaths
- Russia: 252 thousand infected and 2.3 thousand deaths
- United Kingdom: 234 thousand infected and 33.6 thousand deaths
- Spain: 229.5 thousand infected and 27.3 thousand deaths
- Italy: 223 thousand infected and 31 thousand deaths
- Brazil: 196 thousand infected and 13.5 thousand deaths
- France: 178 thousand infected and 27 thousand deaths
- Germany: 174 thousand infected and 7.8 thousand deaths
- Turkey: 144,700 infected and 4,000 deaths
- Will be: 114.5 thousand infected and 6.8 thousand deaths
Brazil is also the sixth in the ranking of countries with the most deaths, lagging behind the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, France and Italy, according to the university.
However, the official balance provided by governments, which is used by the university to build this ranking, does not reflect the actual number of people infected with the new virus, which emerged in late 2019 in China. Since there is no mass testing in most countries, such as Germany and South Korea, there is no way of knowing exactly how many people were affected.
Brazil carried out a little more than 482 thousand tests, of which more than 145 thousand are still waiting for results. As this number of tests is relatively low and the priority is for critically ill patients, those who need to be hospitalized, the amount of underreporting is high.
Brazilian scientists estimate that the actual number of coronavirus cases in the country was already 1.6 million last week. To indicate underreporting, the scientists analyzed data from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and regional agency records. OR G1 He also reported that the actual numbers of the disease are higher than those presented by the Federal Government.
The growth of almost 10 times the number of hospitalizations and 1.035% of deaths from respiratory syndromes are evidence of the underreporting of deaths and severe cases of Covid-19 in the country.
