A group of truckers closed Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo (SP), in a demonstration against social isolation and in favor of President Jair Bolsonaro, on Monday (11). The protesters directly criticized the São Paulo governor, João Doria, and the city’s mayor, Bruno Covas.

Truckers parked their vehicles and blocked about three blocks from the avenue, which is one of the most famous in the city of São Paulo. The region has the largest number of hospitals in the city.

They called for “vertical isolation”, defended by the president, and mainly attacked the governor. According to Uol, there were several stickers with the words “Fora Doria” and even a coffin with images of the mayor and the governor.

The protesters ignored requests from the Military Police to disperse the agglomeration, saying that to follow the Prime Minister’s orders would be to obey the governor. The dispersal occurred only after a police officer entered with a slow speech and was accompanied by one of the truckers.
The protesters’ main request was for Doria to resign. In a video posted online, some truck drivers suggest that the PSDB, along with Globo and former Justice Minister Sérgio Moro, plans to overthrow the president-elect. They said to decree “civil disobedience” in favor of the end of the governor’s term.

In a note, the São Paulo State Logistics and Transportation Secretariat reinforced the need for social isolation and criticized the action of the truckers, in addition to affirming that measures were being taken to help workers in this period.

“The dialogue has been permanent and several measures have already been announced regarding truckers, who do a fundamental job for the country. However, the Secretariat regrets that the demonstration is against social isolation at a time when the new coronavirus has already killed 3,743 people in the state, “says the note.
