The first person to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in New York, United States, was a nurse from Long Island, upstate. The application of the first dose of the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech was broadcast live on Monday (14).
Sandra Lindsay is a nurse in the Long Island Jewish Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and works on the front lines of the fight against coronavirus. The vaccination was broadcast at a virtual event attended by the state’s Governor, Andrew Cuomo.
“What you do every day is what makes a hero,” Cuomo said in a message to the healthcare professional.
The United States began its vaccination campaign on Monday, after approval from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Sunday (13). Healthcare workers on the front lines of Covid-19 should be the first to receive a vaccine.

“I would like to thank all the frontline workers and tell them that today I feel hopeful and relieved, I hope this is the beginning of this difficult time that we are living,” Lindsay said shortly after being vaccinated.
The governor said that “it may be the first in the United States,” but this was not officially confirmed by the authorities until the latest update of this report. Vaccinations are being carried out simultaneously Monday at at least 145 centers across the United States.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, said in a social network that “the first vaccine was administered” and celebrated the application: “Congratulations America! Congratulations, world!”
CDC Director Robert R. Redfield on Sunday celebrated the approval of the immunizer at a critical time for new cases of the new coronavirus to rise in the United States. This Saturday, the country registered 3,309 deaths from Covid-19 in the previous 24 hours.
“I was proud to sign the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommendation to use the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine in people age 16 and older. This official CDC recommendation follows the FDA decision on Friday to authorize the use of the emergency vaccine.” says Redfield.

In the organ assessment, released Sunday, the Pfizer vaccine is highly effective in all age groups, sex, race, ethnicity, and among people with “underlying medical conditions,” as well as among participants with evidence of Sars-CoV- 2 (the new coronavirus).
Last week, the drugmaker published a study with preliminary results from phase 3 trials of the vaccine. According to research, the immunizing agent was 95% effective. This means, in practice, that 95% of vaccinated people are protected against Covid-19.

The United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Singapore approved the use of the Pfizer vaccine last week. In the UK, the vaccination campaign has started.
Last week, the Health Ministry said that Brazil could be vaccinated against Covid-19 later this month or in January if Pfizer gets emergency approval for its vaccine at Anvisa. The government also said it would sign an intention to buy 70 million doses of the Pfizer vaccine.
The announcements came after the government said last week that Brazil did not have the infrastructure to store vaccines that required very low storage temperatures, like Pfizer’s.
