“You have to remember that we are not in the holiday season, or in crowds. It is at this time that this uncontrolled pandemic risk occurs and the entire world is applying specific measures at this time. São Paulo has always differentiated itself from the rest of Brazil in honoring its commitment to make decisions at the necessary time and that is what we are doing now, ”said the secretary of economic development, Patrícia Ellen.

In the last four weeks, São Paulo registered a jump of 54% in the number of cases and 34% in deaths. The situation is worse in Presidente Prudente, which lacks ICU beds and will therefore remain in the red phase even after the Christmas season.

“The first thing is to reclassify the Presidente Prudente region to the red phase. We had a commitment here that if at some point a region entered the red phase, we would make an extraordinary reclassification and that happened from yesterday to today, because Presidente Prudente reached 83% occupancy of seats and, therefore, it is happening. for the red phase ”, explained Patrícia Ellen.

The secretary also clarified that in January no region will go to the green phase, the least restrictive, and that the state reclassification that was scheduled for the next 4 was postponed until January 7: “This was a Contingency recommendation. For us it is very important to understand the moment we are living ”.
