Due to the registration of COVID-19 cases and maximum occupancy in some hospitals, Juiz de Fora, in Zona da Mata, will go back to the Red Wave of Conscious Mines program. The committee decided, in a meeting this Tuesday night (22), that only essential services can operate from December 25, Christmas.

The Municipal Committee for Coping and Prevention of COVID-19 of Juiz de Fora met in an emergency at the request of the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG). This is due to the fact that the agency warned that the capacity of the beds reached more than 95% occupancy, on Sunday night (20).

In addition to the mayor, the committee is made up of representatives from associations, hospitals, public defenders, commerce, security sectors, universities, bars, restaurants and unions.

In recent weeks, the city has recorded death records over a 24-hour period. Furthermore, most of the hospitals had ICU occupations greater than 80%.

With the decision to back down Onda Vermelha, starting on the 25th, only services considered essential are allowed to operate, according to the Minas Consciente program of the government of Minas Gerais. The Juiz de Fora City Council will publish a new decree, until Thursday (24), establishing the new rules.

According to the government of Minas Gerais, of the three wave phases, Onda Vermelha is the most restrictive of Minas Consciente, since only essential services can operate, such as supermarkets, pharmacies, banks and repair and maintenance services.

However, according to initial information from the city council, the new decree may bring more restrictive measures, similar to the rules imposed at the beginning of the pandemic, in March. At that time, the operation of bars, gyms and religious events, for example, was prohibited.

On the night of this Tuesday, Juiz de Fora registered 454 deaths from COVID-19 and 12,824 confirmed cases. The ICU occupancy rate, in general, is 89.58%. Of the 13 hospitals, five are 100% occupied and the other five are above 80%.
