The Palmeiras delegation had a setback due to the protocols related to Covid-19 upon its arrival in Manta, Ecuador, where it will face Delfín, this Wednesday, at 7.15pm (from Brasilia), for the first leg of the round of 16 end of the Libertadores.
The local authorities demanded that there be a test of the entire Palmeirense delegation still on the runway of the city’s airport. Palmeiras, however, refused to carry out tests in the place, claiming that the conditions were precarious, in addition to not having been previously anticipated or warned.
After about two hours of talks, an arrangement was made for Palmeiras to be released next to the hotel and undergo tests at the place where they will be staying.

Palmeiras has cases like Gabriel Silva, Rony and Danilo in his delegation, who were the last to return from the Covid-19 infection. However, they are at a stage where they are free to play for Conmebol. The club says that it even has documents proving the release of the entity.. This Wednesday it will be decided whether the three will really be able to act or not, as this is not guaranteed by local authorities.
Ecuador has adopted strict control measures when entering the country. In order to travel, Palmeiras athletes and employees had to have a valid negative PCR test, so some players did not travel, even though they had recovered from Covid-19.
These tests in Manta are the ones that will be decisive for the Palmeiras squad in the match against Delfín.
Santos, who is also in Ecuador and faced LDU on Tuesday, had no reports of problems upon arrival in the country. The delegation disembarked in Quito, the city where the departure took place, last Sunday.
