The couple Lauany Viodres do Padro and Leonardo Gonçalves Cantieri were sentenced by the jury court to 13 years in prison for the death of the merchant Núbia Ribeiro, who was burned alive. The crime took place in Franca, in the interior of São Paulo, in September 2017.
According to the sentence, the two, who have been in prison from the moment of the crime, will serve a sentence in a closed regime for qualified double homicide and concealment of a corpse. A third party involved Ítalo Vinícius Neves, who is a friend of the couple and would have helped in the crime, was convicted of simple homicide and is expected to serve a sentence of seven years and six months in prison in a closed regime.
The popular jury of the three implicated in the merchant’s death started yesterday morning. Three women and four men made up the jury court.
During the trial, 14 people were heard, including nine defense witnesses and five prosecution witnesses. Núbia’s mother, Tânia Aparecida Ribeiro, was the first to be heard. The trial ended around 6:30 pm.

“I expected the conviction, but the sentence was low. Thirteen years in prison, they are the main defendants, they will be imprisoned for four, five years only. I could see that the laws and penalties of our country are worth nothing,” said the young mother.

According to the Civil Police, the 21-year-old merchant Núbia Ribeiro disappeared after leaving a bar where she was with her friends. Two days later, the girl’s body was found partially burned in the rural area of Patrocínio Paulista. Expert reports concluded that Nubia suffered a head injury and was burned while alive.
According to the investigation, the young woman was lured into an ambush and killed for revenge, after Lauany discovered that her boyfriend, Leonardo, had had a relationship with the victim while the couple was separated.
