Inter is classified in the knockout stages of the Libertadores. But Eduardo Coudet did not even smile at the press conference after the 2-1 loss to the Catholic University on Thursday, in San Carlos de Apoquindo, for the last day of Group E.

In Santiago, Colorado went ahead with D’Alessandro, but suffered the comeback with two goals from Zampedri after defensive failures. In his speech, the coach praised the performance of an almost all reserve team, with only Marcelo Lomba, Víctor Cuesta and Uendel as starters. But he regretted the missed chances in the attack and linked the defeat to mistakes.

– We played a very good game for a team that had never started like this. We had clear situations to take advantage of. I think we pay dearly for some mistakes. But the team was very away, we created situations. We went ahead in two or three very clear movements, but it didn’t work out – said Coudet.

The coach also cited the sequence of matches and denied that the alternative formation has to do with “overconfidence.” Asked about the crowd’s discontent with the defeat, he raised the tone of the answer:

“The fans for acting are unhappy … For qualifying for the second round of the Libertadores and being first in the Brasileirão? Certainly, the questioner is unhappy. I don’t know if the entire crowd is unhappy” (Coudet)

– I made the decision that these were the players who were going to start and we fulfilled the objective of qualifying. We don’t like to lose. Very difficult to be competing in two competitions like Brasileirão and Libertadores. We are being protagonists in both. It is what stands out the most this group that is making a great effort – he points out.

Even with the defeat, Inter secured a place in the Libertadores round of 16 as second place in Group E thanks to goal difference. A draw on Friday will define Colorado’s opponent in the next round. On Sunday, at 6.15pm, it welcomes Flamengo, in Beira-Rio, for the 18th round of the Brasileirão.
