The press media consortium published a new survey on the situation of the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil based on data from state health departments, consolidated at 1:00 pm on Saturday (16).

Since the balance of 8 pm on Friday (15), seven states have updated their data: CE, GO, MG, MS, RN and RS.

See consolidated figures:

  • 208,542 confirmed deaths
  • 8,413,413 confirmed cases

On Friday (15) at 8 pm, the balance indicated: 208,291 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, 1,131 in the last 24 hours. As a result, the moving average of deaths in Brazil in the last 7 days was 964. The variation was + 37% compared to the 14-day average, indicating growth trend in deaths from the disease.

In confirmed cases, since the start of the pandemic 8,394,253 Brazilians have had or have the new coronavirus, with 68,138 of those confirmed on the last day. The moving average of the last 7 days was 54,048 new diagnoses per day. This represents a variation of + 51% in relation to the cases registered in two weeks, which indicates growth trend also in diagnostics.

Fifteen states have a high death rate: PR, MG, RJ, SP, GO, MT, AM, AP, RR, TO, AL, CE, PE, PI and SE.

Amazonas recorded record deaths in 24 hours since October, with 113 deaths. On the only two dates in which this number was higher, this was due to the reclassification of old deaths by the Municipal Secretariat of Health (Semsa) in Manaus. At that time, this review process added more than 100 cases to the daily records for September 2 and October 1 in the state.

(Before the 8 p.m. departure, the consortium released a partial report at 1 p.m., with 207,183 deaths and 8,328,061 confirmed cases.)

This comparison takes into account the average number of deaths in the last 7 days until the publication of this balance in relation to the average registered two weeks ago (understand the criteria used by the G1 to analyze pandemic trends).

It is worth mentioning that there are states in which the low average number of deaths can lead to large percentage variations. Moving average data is generally in decimal numbers and rounded to facilitate presentation of the data.
