The controversies in the final of the Paulista Championship scratched the friendship between Andrés Sánchez and Maurício Galiotte, presidents of Corinthians me Palms. The two can meet again in the Derby this Thursday, at the Neo Química Arena, at 7.15pm (Brasilia), for the ninth day of the Brasileirão.
The two cultivated a good relationship, and during the pandemic they stood firm with similar views on the return of soccer, for example. It was a common scene before Dérbis speaking in the locker room and even before the press. However, the relationship erodes.
Sánchez and Galiotte have not spoken since the last Derby on August 8.
After more than a month of the first match of the Paulista Championship final, the two continue without speaking. Since the Palmeiras title, Andrés has no longer insisted on staying close to his biggest rival’s manager.
– He didn’t call me, I didn’t call either. Incorrect. It was leaked to the press before the meeting ended. I said that anyone who didn’t follow protocol should. We were doing it. It was leaked to the press, he was injured. It’s a good friend. I didn’t care because he was the one who made a mistake with me and not me with him. I have nothing against it – said Andrés, in an interview with the painting “Tino Marcos Uchôa”.
Under the give remember what happened.

Andrés accuses Galiotte of having leaked information to the press that Corinthians had refused to test their players before the first match of the final. The case stood out at the time, and in the end, it didn’t …
Corinthians and Palmeiras adopted different protocols in Paulistão. Timão kept his players focused on CT Joaquim Grava throughout the final stretch of the state, conducting the battery of tests weekly. Verdão released his players, but conducted tests every three days.
The difference in protocols generates noise. Corinthians felt “offended” by “sacrificing” their athletes by keeping them confined and therefore did not want to include one more test in the pre-Derby.
Palmeiras, in turn, bothered to test the players “alone” and treated the controversy as a procedural “technical” difference.
Controversy 2: the locker room
The São Paulo title of Corinthians in 2018, at Allianz Parque, featured a detail that angered Palmeiras behind the scenes: Timão wrapped the entire dressing room visiting the alviverde stadium with the colors white, with the right to bands and flags. There was no trace of the color green there.
The “change” came two years later: before the final, Palmeiras decorated the entire dressing room with references to their history, highlighting the green and everything related to the club. Before Dérbi, it was common for the visiting team’s dressing room to be more neutral.
Corinthians, of course, did not like being forced to stay in space and improvised some covers on the spot with black and white banners and flags. Palmeiras, for their part, assures that the decoration was maintained and that is how they have received the rest of the teams that come to the stadium.

Corinthians responded by decorating the Allianz Parque dressing room.
If on the side of Corinthians Andrés has spoken more than once about not paying attention to looking for Galiotte, on the side of the president of Palmeirense it is understood that everything is fine, although, in fact, they have not spoken. This is just an absence of common problems in the last month.
Galiotte usually attends the Neo Química Arena this Thursday, as he has done in Palmeiras away games. The president refused to respond publicly to Andrés’s anger.
