Corinthians beat Coritiba 1-0, today (25), in Couto Pereira, in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship. Timão, who had Jô, Roni and Lucas Piton as the main innovations in the starting lineup, dominated the “owners of the house” for much of the game. The goal of the São Paulo team, by the way, was made by left-back Fábio Santos on a penalty 20 minutes into the first half.
With the victory, Corinthians “breathes” the fight against relegation. Vagner Mancini’s team jumped to ninth place with 29 points. Coritiba, for its part, remains in the grip zone, in 18th place, with 20 points.
Corinthians will return to the field next Wednesday (2), at 9:30 p.m. (Brasilia time), in Castelão, for the 24th day of the competition. Coxa faces Red Bull Bragantino on the 5th, at 9:00 p.m. (from Brasilia), in Couto Pereira.
Who got it right: Fagner and Luan “came back”
Fagner and Luan, victorious players in their careers and criticized this season, stood out in today’s game. The winger was very offensive, while Luan showed skill and moved a lot between midfield and attack. The number 7, also, collaborated in marking the midfield.
Who was wrong: Harmless Robson
The Coritiba forward Robson caused practically no danger to the Corinthians defense. The player only “appeared” after colliding with Bruno Méndez in a dispute for the ball from above.
Piton approved in the middle
Vagner Mancini got on the young side in midfield, playing opposite Fábio Santos, in the “second row” from the left. Revealed in Corinthians futsal and with passes for the Brazilian team of the modality, Piton stands out for its technical quality. Today he helped Luan a lot to mount plays, in addition to covering and giving Fábio Santos more freedom to “go up” to attack.
Game timeline
Corinthians entered the field in the 4-4-2 scheme, with two lines of four. Luan acted upfront with Jô in attack, but he returned to compose the medium. Thus, Vagner Mancini’s team changed the scheme to 4-4-1-1. In the second row, Roni (right) and Lucas Piton (left) performed open, with Xavier and Gabriel inside.
Corinthians were intense and played well from the start. The team was lighter with the lineup of Vagner Mancini, who bet on Lucas Piton and Roni as a novelty in the midfield. When Roni acted openly from the right, Fagner gained more freedom and became one of Timão’s most dangerous weapons. Right at the start of the match, the number 23 shirt crossed for Jô, who almost opened the scoring. Scoreboard that was soon inaugurated, by the way. At 20 minutes, after Lucas Piton finished off inside the area, the ball hit Maílton’s arm. With a VAR review, referee Leandro Vuaden scored a penalty. In the collection, Fábio Santos scored 1 to 0.
In the second half, Corinthians failed to maintain intensity, despite remaining constant in the game. Coritiba was harmless and dominated for almost 90 minutes. The Paraná team failed to infiltrate the Corinthians defense and were only scared by some shots from outside and from the area.
Cassio in reserve
Cássio was on the bench against Coritiba. The goalkeeper felt the back muscle of the left thigh during the warm-up. As Walter stands out technically and always pushes for Cássio’s starting position, coach Vagner Mancini opted to scale Walter and leave jersey 12 on the bench. It is worth mentioning that the Corinthians idol was the only substitute goalkeeper on the bench, as the coaching staff did not take the third goalkeeper to Curitiba.
