Corinthians fans prepare for another Derby next Thursday. On the eve of the start, the Alvinegros already have reasons to celebrate: Timão completes two years of undefeated against his rival this Wednesday.
Corinthians’ last defeat against the alviverde team occurred exactly two years ago, on September 9, 2018, in a match valid for the Brazilian Championship. Since then, there have been six meetings between the teams and Timão was no longer defeated: there were two wins and four draws, in addition to five goals scored and three conceded.
Within that period, the oldest match was valid for Paulista 2019 and ended in Alvinegra’s victory 1 to 0 with a goal from Danilo Avelar. After that there were two matches for the Brazilian of the same year: 1-1 draw at home with a goal from Manoel; it’s new tie for the same score, now away from home and with a goal from Michel Macedo.
This season there were three other meetings between the teams. In a game that marked the return of state football, Corinthians beat Palmeiras 1-0 again with a goal from Gil. Subsequently, the teams met on two other occasions, for the final in Paulistão. The first one is over goalless draw, while the second ended with the score level 1 to 1 – Corinthians’ goal was scored by Jô with a penalty.
Seeking to maintain a positive trajectory, Corinthians will host their rival at Neo Química Arena, next Thursday, at 7:15 p.m., for the Brazilian Championship. The team is also trying to score the first victory at its newly christened stadium.
