The return of the Corinthians delegation to the city of São Paulo was very tense, tonight (13), after facing Fluminense in Maracanã. The players were cursed and pushed by a group of fans waiting for the landing at Guarulhos International Airport. Earlier, the team lost 2-1.
The group of fans started the riot when the players appeared outside the airport. The first target was the steering wheel Ederson, which even protected by security guards was cursed and pushed. Then the athletes had to run towards the Corinthians bus, which was parked a few dozen meters away.
The confusion intensified near the door of the bus, where the attackers were crowding. Upon entering the vehicle, Angelo Araos gave a push; minutes later, the security guards had to hug the doorman Cássio to keep him away from those who followed him; and then one of the most exalted men looked to the side Michel Macedo shouting and with a raised finger.
Wanted, Corinthians reports that no athletes were injured.
On the pitch, Corinthians is going through a bad phase, exacerbated by today’s defeat against Fluminense. The team has nine points in the Brazilian Championship and is outside the relegation zone by tiebreaker. The team returns to the field at 9:30 p.m. (Brasilia) this Wednesday (16), to face Bahia, in Neo Química Arena.
Episodes of violence are nothing new in this season of Brazilian soccer. Nine days ago, dozens of people invaded the Orlando Scarpelli stadium during a Figueirense training session. There were several attempts to attack the players and the group of aggressors dispersed before the arrival of the Military Police. Last week, athletes from various clubs -including Corinthians- protested in the first minute of the Brasileirão games on the ninth day, crossing their arms in repudiation of what happened.
Nor is it the first time that Corinthians players have been attacked by members of their own fans. In an episode that became famous in 2014, some 100 people invaded the club’s Training Center, made lawsuits, and only left after speaking to then-Corinthians coach Mano Menezes. On the occasion, some players had to hide in the engine room of the Connecticut.
