According to the specific regulations, the 2021 Copa do Brasil will be contested by 92 teams – 80 from the first phase and 12 from the third phase (eight representatives of the country in the Copa Libertadores, 9th place in the Brazilian, Srie B champion, Northeast Cup champion and Green Cup champion).

Article 12 determines that the first phase duel takes place in the home of the team with the lowest classification in the CBF ranking. Cruzeiro, therefore, plays outside of Belo Horizonte, having the advantage of qualifying with a draw in the opposite half.

The second phase, which also takes place in a single match, will be decided on penalties in the event of a tie in regulation time. The clubs will face potential opponents in Tuesday’s draw, as well as whether they will play indoors or outdoors.

The third phase will have round-trip matches, with the teams divided according to their positions in the CBF ranking (16 best in block I and the rest in block II).

CBF has not yet released the figures for the Copa do Brasil 2021 award. Cruzeiro’s six trophies at the Copa do Brasil were won in 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2017 and 2018. The club achieved runner-up in 1998 and 2014 and reached the semi-finals in 2005, 2016 and 2019.
