“As the country reaches the sad mark of Covid-19’s 10,000 official deaths, the National Congress also suffers the pain of so many Brazilian families who have lost loved ones, unable to pay them fair tribute.”
It is a tragedy that devastates us more every day. Ten thousand people, loved and important to other people, full of dreams, had their lives interrupted.
In solidarity with this pain, out of respect for the deaths of these ten thousand Brazilians, the National Congress decrees an official three-day duel. This Parliament, which represents the people and the federal balance of this nation, is not indifferent to this moment of loss, sadness and pain.
The situation we are experiencing is unfortunately unique. Our cities stopped, our classless children, our scared people. Fighting an enemy as invisible as it is deadly, who attacks without respecting borders or without warning, is cruel and sacrifice.
The National Congress has done its part by taking legislative steps to support individuals, governments, and businesses. It is a difficult time for everyone.
When it comes to protecting the life of Brazilians, which is the greatest value, there is no doubt about the way forward; There is no possible doubt.
Brazil will emerge from this pandemic wounded, heartbroken, saddened, as well as other nations. But it will also leave with an equally great challenge ahead, of the resumption, of the reconstruction.
Although we mourn the death of our Brazilian brothers and sisters, we urge everyone to keep up with the recommendations of the health authorities, slowing down this terrible disease, while preparing for a safe and definitive return to normality. “
