A rave with about three thousand young people camped on a farm was interrupted by the Military Police on the morning of this Sunday the 6th, in Sorocaba, in the interior of São Paulo. Regulars did not wear masks, drank alcoholic beverages and danced electronic music, animated by DJs. This type of party, which causes a large influx of public, is prohibited throughout the State of São Paulo due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Since last Monday 30, Sorocaba fell back to the yellow phase of the São Paulo Plan, of actions against the pandemic, for having registered an increase in the number of cases of covid-19. The city has almost 100% occupancy of ICU beds for patients with the disease. Report published this Sunday by Status shows that the spread of the coronavirus among young people up to age 29 was the one that increased the most among age groups since the start of the pandemic. In June, this group accounted for 20% of positive cases and, since September, it has already accumulated 27% of all infected.
According to the Military Police, the party was clandestine. Organizers said they had sold 3,000 tickets. The event is located in the Aparecidinha neighborhood, to the east of the city, next to residential condominiums. The rave started at 2pm on Saturday and was supposed to last until 8pm this Sunday. Even on Saturday night, neighboring residents reported the loud noise and the crowd to the Municipal Civil Guard and the PM.
Military policemen went to the scene on Sunday morning (6). The organizers did not present a permit or license to hold the party. The event, publicized on social media, attracted young people from Sorocaba, neighboring cities and the metropolitan region of São Paulo. The youths went through a search and were released. The PM notified the inspection department of the Sorocaba mayor’s office to take action due to the lack of permission for the event.
