Chief Raoni Metuktire, 89, a leader of the Kayapó ethnic group, presented mild arrhythmia and remains in a hospital in Sinop, 503 km from Cuiabá, due to coronavirus (Covid-19). Raoni is known internationally for defending the rights of indigenous peoples.
The boss has been hospitalized since Friday (28).
According to the medical report on Tuesday (1st), it is a mild and common arrhythmia among people the age of the boss and, according to the doctors, it is not serious and is being treated and monitored by the cardiology team.

Even on Monday (31), the indigenous leader reported mild chest pain and preliminary examinations showed a suspicious condition of myocarditis, stable and without deterioration of health.
New tests will be carried out during the day and on Wednesday (2), at 11 am, a new medical bulletin will be published.
During the night he also reported shortness of breath and breathes with the help of devices.
According to the medical report, the chief woke up in good general condition, but will remain under observation, in an isolation bed, without discharge prognosis.
Chief Raoni was admitted to the hospital after being evaluated with a diagnosis of pneumonia by the medical team in his village, located in the Xingu Indigenous Park, in the north of Mato Grosso.
Initially, he underwent laboratory and imaging tests that indicated Covid-19, already in the inflammatory phase of the disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by the positive RT-PCR test for Sars-Cov2.

Raoni was treated with anticoagulants, corticosteroids and antibiotics, according to hospital protocol.
Raoni Metuktire was admitted to a Colíder hospital on July 16 after falling ill. On the 18th of the same month, he was transferred to Sinop by plane after gastrointestinal complications and dehydration.
According to the Raoni Institute’s management, the chief was depressed after the death of his wife, Bekwyjkà Metuktire, on June 23, a month ago. He had diabetes and suffered a stroke.
He was discharged nine days later.
The indigenous leader is internationally recognized for the struggle he has articulated for indigenous peoples. In 1989, he had a historic encounter with the singer Sting during the First Meeting of the Indigenous Peoples of the Xingu, in Altamira (PA).

The two met in 2009 in the city of São Paulo to discuss the construction of the Belo Monte Plant.
In November 2012, Raoni was received by the President of France, François Hollande, at the Elysee Palace. At that time, the cacique asked for the preservation of the Amazon and the people who live in the region.
Last year, Raoni was called by President Jair Bolsonaro as a “maneuvering piece” used by foreign governments to “promote their interests in the Amazon.”
