The Pension Reform, which came into force in November 2019, establishes a new minimum age for insured persons of the National Social Security Institute (INSS) to have the right to retirement. However, those who were already in the labor market can retire without meeting this requirement, as long as they are in one of the transition rules.
Who intends to submit the application in 2020 can choose the criteria of Minimum age, points and retirement by age. In all options there was a increase six months in contribution time. This is because the rules for granting the benefit are stricter. Learn about each of the rules and see which is the best option for you.
Minimum age
This type of retirement is valid for workers who are already in the labor market, and who this year meet the following requirements:
- Men: 61 years and six months, with a minimum contribution period of 35 years;
- Women: 56 years and six months, with a minimum contribution period of 30 years.
It should be noted that the minimum age, due to the transition rules, increases six months each year, reaching 62 years (women) and 65 years (men).
Retirement by points
This type of retirement takes into account the sum of age and contribution time when the benefit is granted. In 2020, workers who achieve the following score are governed by this rule:
- Men: 97 points, with at least 35 years of contributions;
- Women: 87 points, with at least 30 years of contributions.
The minimum score also increases year after year. In 2021, for example, women will need 88 points and men 98 points to be eligible for retirement. The increase occurs annually until reaching 100/105 for women and men, respectively.
Retirement by age
The minimum retirement age for men remains the same. For women, there was a six-month increase. Here’s what it looks like to retire under this rule in 2020:
- Men: 65 years old, with a minimum contribution period of 15 years;
- Women: 60 years and six months, with a minimum contribution period of 15 years.
It is worth mentioning that since the new minimum age for women is 62 years, there is an increase of six months each year until the new requirement is reached.
