2020 and its unusual events seem to have no end. This Sunday (30), the inhabitants of the cities of Recóncavo de Bahía woke up feeling the earth tremble. There are reports from residents of Santo Antônio de Jesus, Amargosa, Muniz Ferreira, among others. Recently, on the 19th, Cachoeira also experienced the same situation.

The tremors occurred early in the morning, around 7:30 a.m. “It was an earthquake for 1 to 2 seconds, everything in my house shook, it was a fast shaking, but at first it was a bad feeling, we in Muniz Ferreira never saw an earthquake, we were worried. They also informed me of tremors in Nazaré, Santo Antônio de Jesus, Amargosa, Sapaeçu, but we still do not know the origin of this earthquake, ”said student Kaylan Anibal, 19 years old.

The mayor of Amargosa, Júlio Pinheiro, also felt the tremor and has already called the competent authorities to understand what happened. “We felt an earthquake in Amargosa and there are reports that this occurred throughout the region. We still do not know what happened, we are looking together with the state Civil Defense to see if seismology centers have been registered,” he said.

According to the municipal manager, the earthquake was rapid, but of great intensity. “It was a strong earthquake and lasted about three seconds, it was scary. We have no reports of damage to the streets or houses, but we have teams on the streets to check. We were informed of reports of the same situation in Santo Antônio de Jesus, Mutuípe, Laje, São Miguel, Elísio Medrado “, complete.

Rodrigo Matos, a resident of the city, was having coffee with his family when the tremor startled him. “We were together, drinking coffee, when he shuddered. We looked at each other and asked if everyone felt the same. What a strange feeling. In the neighboring house, the statues beat each other for two or three months,” he says.

In São Miguel das Matas the tremor was also intense. Resident Jadson Penine says the ground started shaking at least three times. “The first was at 7:40 am, it was very strong, it shook the house. And now, around 8:15 am, it trembled again, strong. And at 8:30 it gave a little bit. The products fell off off the market shelves. It shook everything. “

The shaking was even more intense in Santo Antônio de Jesus. A neighbor of the municipality, Manoel Souza, 53, says he was lying in bed when he felt the floor shake.

“I thought it was a tractor, a steamroller that passed by here on the street. Everything shook for about 20, 30 seconds. I looked out the window and saw that there was nothing on the street, it was very strange, there was a neighbor who was running, desperate. I never got through it, it’s a very strange feeling. I heard that it happened in Ilhéus and Itabuna as well ”, he says. The municipalities of southern cities have not confirmed the earthquake and are investigating the situation.

In São Félix, Sunday morning was also harrowing. Cultural producer Carine Araújo was in the bathroom when she heard the screams of her daughter, who woke up scared by the shaking. “I didn’t even believe it was that, because I live near the train line, so it often happens that the train fits in and we felt some tremors. The fact is that my daughter woke up scared, holding the bed as if she were going to fall “I had already got up, was in the bathroom, woke up crying. I went to look at the groups, everyone asked if anyone had common sense. My cousin from Muritiba, my friends from Cachoeira felt it,” he explains.

The shock in São Miguel das Matas was registered by the USP Seismology Center in São Paulo. The rest still do not count in the country’s observatories.

In Salvador there is no tremor record, according to the municipality’s Civil Defense (Codesal).
