Minister Celso de Mello, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined on Thursday (23) that the mayor, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), will provide information in ten days on a request for a trial presented at the end of the March of a group of lawyers against President Jair Bolsonaro.
This same group of lawyers appealed to the STF to compel Maia to analyze the impeachment request; in accordance with the Constitution, it is the Chamber’s responsibility to authorize the procedure to verify whether there was a crime under the responsibility of the President.
The lawyers also asked the Court to order President Jair Bolsonaro to take a series of measures amid the coronavirus pandemic.
They want, for example, that the president be prevented from promoting and participating in agglomerations and that he be forced to deliver a copy of the tests he has carried out to detect the disease. According to Bolsonaro, the two tests he underwent were negative.
Before evaluating the request, the minister asked Maia to submit explanations to the STF. And it determined that President Jair Bolsonaro is cited in the process, a requirement to prevent the lawsuit from being considered invalid.
“The execution of the summons in question constitutes an essential provision for the regular continuation of this action,” wrote the minister.
