The company has asked residents of the municipalities it serves to save water. The forecast is that the service will only normalize between December 15 and 20, when one of the boimbas, which has been under maintenance since April, will be operational again. Water shortage records and tank truck orders can be made by calling 0800-282-1195.

Built in the early 1960s, under the government of Carlos Lacerda, the Lameirão Elevatory was called, at that time, “the work of the century”. According to Cedae, it is the largest groundwater pump in the world.

The station, located in Senador Vasconcelos, in the Western Zone, receives approximately half of the treated water at the Guandu Station, located 11km away, in Nova Iguaçu. About 20 thousand liters per second are pumped 117 meters high, in tunnels dug directly into the rock. From there, the water descends through a 32km-long canal tunnel, which empties into the Macacos Reservoir, located between Gávea and Jardim Botânico, in the South Zone. Along the way, there are outlets to supply parts of the Center and the North and West Zones. Of the seven pumps running on the unit, three are broken, causing the problem.
